Sitting at the airport in Cambodia reflecting over my week here and I just cannot shake the stories that I have heard. Â I cannot shake the images that I have seen. Â I cannot shake the frustration, anger, and compassion that I feel for the people that are trafficked and exploited because of greed and lust. Â Right now sitting within 10 feet of me are a group of ten young Khmer girls who are boarding the flight to KL with me. Â They have a brown envelope, a boarding pass, and a fresh passport that has never been used. Â They like thousands of others have been recruited by a Malaysian company to come and work for them as a domestic servant or possibly in a restaurant. Â What will happen to these girls? Â A number of things is possible. Â One option is that what is promised to them actually happens. They will become someone’s maid but only to find that they will not make as much money as promised. Â A second option is that they will end up in a brothel forced to repay the debts of the people who trafficked her to this new environment. They have never been on an airplane before. Â They have never been outside of Cambodia. Â I can see that they are afraid, nervous, and excited at the same time. Â But what can I do? Â I can not know the fate of these girls by just assuming that these two options will happen. Â I have to sit here and wonder what will be there fate. I have to pray that more people will become aware of their situation globally and get involved and do something.
I can upload this video and wonder how many people will take a few minutes out of their busy day to watch it?
By becoming aware we become responsible and our responsibility must lead us to action.
