Why is following Jesus into the unknown so complicated for the majority of people?

About six months ago I was in the process of asking God to make it clear to me whether or not I was to make a transition or stay where I was. That is when I came across an article that read something like this: “Mega-church Pastor Leaves His Church.”

I was intrigued by this as the caption did not mention a moral failure or mismanagement of funds. So I read the article and was very impressed with the decision Francis Chan had made to pass on his church to his elders and venture into the unknown. This decision has created quite a stir in the church world which should not be surprising. Anytime people start calling someone crazy or radical I pay close attention. We live in a time where the world is constantly changing and I wonder why radical is a term that makes people uncomfortable. I am beginning to think that what most people think is radical life should be what we as followers of Jesus consider to be a normal life.
